Sri Lanka’s FREE EDUCATION SYSTEM with its 1:20 ratio teacher – pupil policy, has paved the way for a 91.2% LITERACY RATE and a high level of education compared to most developing countries. These statistics unfortunately conceal the reality of Rural Schools where the unequal distribution of learning resources lead to a poor quality education.
TARANA FOUNDATION initiatives help students in remote rural areas of Sri Lanka overcome difficulties in obtaining basic school requirements and help improve the quality of their education. With the generosity of our valued donors we have supported 11,905 students, so far. We have provided school bags, school supplies such as books, pencils etc, and a voucher to buy school shoes for the students. We have also supported the schools directly by providing books for the school libraries, sports equipment to encourage sports participation and equipment for the school bands.
